Essential Tips for Successfully Losing Weight and Maintaining It

Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you joined me today. As someone who recently celebrated one year of maintaining my weight loss, I have some crucial reminders for those of you aiming to hit your goal weight. For those who have already achieved it, please share your advice in the comments. Here are four essential tips to ensure you’re ready for losing weight and reaching your goal.

1. It’s Okay to Change Your Goal Weight

When I started my weight loss journey, my initial goal was to lose 60 pounds, aiming for a target weight of 158 pounds. Surprisingly, I reached this goal within six months, much faster than I expected. Eventually, I adjusted my goal to a 70-pound loss, which made me feel even better. Remember, it’s perfectly fine to adjust your goal weight as you progress and learn more about your body and what feels right for you. Consult with your doctor and make the best decision for your health.

2. Prepare Emotionally for Reaching Your Goal

The day I hit my goal weight was filled with unexpected emotions. Having been overweight for a long time, the moment was monumental for me. I wish I had planned better for that day, as it was incredibly special but also overwhelming. If you’ve struggled with weight for years, hitting your goal can bring a lot of emotions to the surface. Make sure to plan something special to mark the occasion and prepare yourself emotionally for the achievement.

3. Understand Your New Caloric Needs

Once you reach your goal weight, your caloric needs will change. I’ve put a link in the description to a video on finding your sweet spot in maintenance. Many of us know the 1200-calorie diet for losing weight, but maintenance requires a different approach. Research and understand your new caloric needs based on your activity level, energy requirements, and overall health. Having a clear idea of your caloric goal can help you maintain your weight effectively.

4. Embrace the Maintenance Dance

Maintaining your weight is a continuous process that involves adjustments in calories, portions, and habits. Be prepared for fluctuations and find what works best for you. For instance, I found that staying off the scale and focusing on how my clothes fit works better for me. Also, be ready to invest in new clothes and adapt to new hunger signals as your body adjusts to maintenance mode. It’s all about finding balance and staying mindful of your habits.

Conclusion

Losing weight and maintaining it involves a blend of setting realistic goals, preparing emotionally, understanding your body’s needs, and embracing the ongoing adjustments required in maintenance. Your journey is unique, and finding what works best for you is key. Share your tips and experiences in the comments to help others on their weight loss journey.
